Prof. Frits Wijburg

Professor dr. Frits Wijburg studied medicine at the University of Amsterdam and specialized in pediatrics at the Academic Medical Center (AMC) in AmsterdamFrom 1992 to 1994 he was trained in pediatric gastroenterology and nutrition at the University Medical Center in Groningen, the Netherlands.
In 1994 he moved back to the AMC where he received his training in inherited metabolic diseases. In 2004 he became a full professor and chairman of the division of Clinical Metabolic Diseases of the Emma Children’s Hospital at the AMC, one of the largest units for metabolic disorders in the Netherlands. His clinical and research groups focus on unraveling the pathophysiology of inborn errors of intermediary metabolism as well as on lysosomal storage diseases. He has published over 120 peer reviewed publications on metabolic diseases and is a member of numerous international committees and working groups.
