Dr. Lu-Ann Papile
Dr Lu-Ann Papile is a Professor of Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas and Director of the Neonatal Developmental Care and Follow Up Program at Texas Children's Hospital. Dr. Papile has been actively engaged in clinical research for 35 years. Her research endeavors have focused on studies related to perinatal brain injury and the neurodevelopmental outcome of very preterm infants. In 1978 she published a landmark paper that defined the prevalence and spectrum of periventricular, intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) among extremely preterm infants. She is the author/co-author of over 70 articles and 80 abstracts, many of which were the result of her participation as a principal investigator in the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) Neonatal Research Network. She has been/is the recipient of clinical research grants from NIH and other US national agencies.
Dr. Papile is internationally recognized for her expertise regarding brain injury in the preterm infant and has been invited to speak throughout the United States, Central and South America, and Europe. She has received several awards including the Landmark Award from the American Academy of Pediatrics (2007), the Legends in Neonatology award from Pediatrix (2007) and the Alumnae/Alumni Achievement Award from the Medical College of Pennsylvania, her alma mater (2004). She has been listed continuously in the Woodward/White publication, The Best Doctors in America, since its inception in 1992.
Dr. Papile has served on numerous national committees/boards in the US and currently is Chair of the American Academy of Pediatrics Committee on Fetus and Newborn. She is also an Associate Editor of the Yearbook of Neonatology.
