Dr. Michael Shevell
Dr Michael Shevell MD, CM, FRCPC is a pediatric neurologist at the Montreal Children's Hospital- McGill University Health Center, Director of its Division of Pediatric Neurology and a Professor (with Tenure) in the Departments of Neurology/Neurosurgery and Pediatrics at McGill University and an Associate Member of the School of Physical & Occupational Therapy. Board Certified in Neurology in Quebec, Canada and the United States; he also holds a subspecialty certification in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities.
A former Chercheur Boursier Clinicien of the FRSQ at the Junior & Senior levels, he has an active research program focusing on issues related to neonatal neurology, children with or at-risk for neurodevelopmental sequelae, in particular cerebral palsy, global developmental delay and developmental language impairment. He has presently over 150 peer-reviewed publications and 40 book chapters/invited papers published. He currently serves on four editorial boards (Canadian Journal of Neurological Sciences, Pediatric Neurology, Journal of Child Neurology and Seminars in Pediatric Neurology) and is Associate Editor for two of these journals (CJNS and JCN).
He has edited or co-edited 4 monographs on topics related to child neurology and the forthcoming multi-authored textbook "Clinical and Scientific Aspects of Neurodevelopmental Disabilities". He was the lead author on the American Academy of Neurology/Child Neurology Society Practice Parameter on global developmental delay and co-author of its statement on cerebral palsy. He is currently Director of the Quebec Cerebral Palsy Registry. A former President of Canadian Association of Child Neurology, he presently serves on the Executive Board of the International Child Neurology Association and has been Chair of the Ethics Committee of the Child Neurology Society for the past decade.
Dr Michael Shevell was Chairman of the recent Xth World Congress of the International Child Neurology Association held in Montreal in June 2006. He is also an Active Member of the American Neurological Association.
